Congratulations Joey and Stacey!

My cousin Joey just got engaged to his soul mate. He is very talented photographer. Please visit his page here. When I got engaged, Joey treated me to an engagement portrait session at The Grounds for Sculpture. Naturally, it was my privilege to use my creative skills in celebration of this event. If you’re interested in a custom watercolor engagement or wedding portrait, please e-mail me at jashmen@gmail.com or visit my Etsy shop.

Congratulations, Joey and Stacey! I wish health and happiness to you both.

Here’s an example of Joey’s work. If you’re looking for an engagement or wedding photographer in the New Jersey area, he’s your man.

Custom Couple Watercolor Painting

This is my second watercolor couples portrait. I really enjoy painting two people that are in love. It is my hope that more of these types of commissions roll in. The first was a wedding present, this will be a Christmas gift. Chemistry between lovers is not easy to capture, but when the paint finally catches it, the whole piece shines.

Belly Dancers

Last night was Dr. Sketchy’s Asbury Park’s belly dancing event. I may be the only woman in the world who loves belly dancing as much as I do without ever having tried to belly dance. I adore belly dancers.  Unfortunately, I forgot my paints. I had two stray tubes in my purse, payne’s gray and rose matter. My pallet was very limited, so I’m not truly happy with how these came out.  Models were Sabrina Combs, Felicia Fatale, Lori Venus, and Ra’idah Dance.

Full of Spirit

The following watercolor piece was commissioned by an old friend. It is of her and her fiance. She is framing the watercolor with their vows and giving it to him their wedding day. I am honored to have been chosen to create such an important painting.

SOLD

A photo of the gorgeous couple.

If you are interested in having a custom watercolor engagement painting, contact me at jashmen@gmail.com or through my Etsy shop. A 5 inch by 7 inch piece, like the one above, is $200.00. A 9 inch by 12 inch piece is $300.00. All I need is three weeks and a photo or two to work with. I do ship internationally.

Here are a couple of in progress shots to give you a glimpse of my process.

Star Wars Themed Dr. Sketchy’s

I haven’t updated in over a month, which is some sort of awful record. I won’t give excuses. Sometimes life just gets in the way of art.

Last Friday was May the 4th Be With You. There was a Star War’s themed Dr. Sketchy’s at Smithville’s The Underground. Our stellar models were Roxanne Mass and Sam East (aka Samantha Star).  Unfortunately, a glass of water was spilled, ruining some of my better pieces from the night. Here are some of the surviving paintings:

Beauties of Asbury Lanes

A few weeks late, but better than never. Here are the paintings I created at the most recent Dr. Sketchy Asbury Park session. The theme was vampires. The models were Tricia Pain, Krissi, and the sultry Sammi Macabe.

Tricia Pain’s two minute poses were some of the sexiest of the evening:

Seven Devils

The Atlantic City Ballet‘s newest show opens next Friday. Caught Up in Swing/7 Sins is breathtaking. I do not have the vocabulary to properly describe the skill of these dancers and the caliber of their choreography. The show features contemporary music like Florence and The Machine and Nine Inch Nails. Everyone in southern New Jersey and Philadelphia should be buying a ticket.

Watercolors from their rehearsals:

Dr. Sketchy’s Asbury Park

Here are some of my more successful sketches from Asbury Park’s Dr. Sketchy’s session. The gorgeous models were Tricia Pain and Krissi Horan. The theme was Soviet Takeover. Beautiful costumes, and lots of red!

NSFW

NSFW means “not safe for work”. It is often used as a way to label images of naked people. I agree that nudes are not safe work. In fact, looking at anything that isn’t related to work while at work is not safe to be doing when your boss walks in. Even Hello Kitty is not safe for work. I do not agree with the fact that more art shows, galleries, and websites are refusing to exhibit depictions of nudes. The contemporary art world is becoming more conservative than the Catholic church. They’ve had public displays of nudes for hundreds of years.

The following images are NSFW, but they are safe for home, teenagers, and any toddlers you may have looking over your shoulder. You know why? Because they are art. Stop being such a fuddy duddy.
