Freshly Painted

Sometimes, when I can’t sleep, I just lie in bed and worry about silly things that never seem to matter much in the morning. Other times, when I can’t sleep, I get out of bed and paint instead.

Defiant Stare

This snowy owl was painted for Reddit’s 2nd weekly art jam. He was a particular challenge since he has mostly white feathers. His defiant stare brought out my stubborn side and I am very happy with this rendition of his likeness.

Owl Stare. Watercolor paint and ink on paper. 4.5″ x 6″ (11.4 cm x 15.2 cm).

Unframed: $100.00

Welcome Spring!

It is the first day of spring. It also happens to be Sketchbook Saturday.

Very close to my home is a big, beautiful bird reserve. No one appreciates the arrival of springtime quite as much as our feathered friends. The gestures below were drawn from live birds, which are found in abundance in my area. There is a hen, a rooster, some geese, and a large, black, duck-like bird with a bumpy beak.

Happy Spring! Happy Sketching!

Barn Owls Don’t Celebrate Valentine’s Day

Barn owls don’t celebrate Valentine’s Day, but they do mate for life. Today’s drawing is dedicated to all those love birds out there. Keep being full of adoration.

Late Birds

One of the murals I will be working on come spring is a jungle scene. I’ve begun studying animals that live in tropical settings. Here are four little parrots. Thier individual personalities make me smile.
