Remember Sketchbook Saturday?

I never do.

Below is a drawing from my sketchbook made during a Hammonton Arts Center board meeting. My skecthbook and I are still inseperable. Unfortunately, Twitpic seems to see more of its contents than this blog does.

Welcome Spring!

It is the first day of spring. It also happens to be Sketchbook Saturday.

Very close to my home is a big, beautiful bird reserve. No one appreciates the arrival of springtime quite as much as our feathered friends. The gestures below were drawn from live birds, which are found in abundance in my area. There is a hen, a rooster, some geese, and a large, black, duck-like bird with a bumpy beak.

Happy Spring! Happy Sketching!

Red and Black Doorknob

This Saturday’s sketch is of a doorknob. Enjoy:

Sketchbook Caturday!

Here is a page of quick cat studies from my sketchbook. Ink on paper.

Everybody now!

Join in sketchbook Saturday!

For over a year, I have been posting a drawing from my sketchbook almost every Saturday. This habit helps motivate me to keep a sketchbook. It also encourages understanding of the fact that not every drawing needs to be a masterpiece. I’ve found, as an artist, sometimes there is more of myself in a quick scribble than in a completed painting.

My goal this year is to involve more people in Sketchbook Saturday. If you should decide to participate, please link to your sketch in the comment section below. If you have a Twitter account, label your weekly sketch as #sketchbooksaturday. I will look at everyone’s sketches and retweet a few a week. It is an ambitious New Years resolution, but one I plan to try. Lets make 2010 more artistic than any year before it!

Maybe this will catch on, maybe it won’t. I plan on keeping up the habit either way. It has improved my art and my enjoyment of life.

Today’s sketch is “Parts of a Party”. Ink on paper.

Window Duet

I sketched this while being serenaded by two strangers with acoustic guitars.

This is the first drawing in my newest sketchbook. It is beautifully handmade by Parkside Harmony.  I cannot wait to fill it up.

An Oldie But Goodie

A sketch I did of a snowy parking lot back in February.
