Twice a month at the Hammonton Arts Center, the Painter’s Atelier meets. The Painter’s Atelier is a group of painters interested in learning from one another. Each meeting has a theme. Today’s theme was “snow.” Below is my wintry, watercolor still life including a snow globe. It is fascinating to see the variety of work 5 different artists can create using a single word.

Every August, Perkins Center for the Arts hosts a rendering contest. A building in Collingswood, NJ is chosen to be drawn. This is the third year I’ve participated in the competition. I am very thankful for this yearly opportunity to publicly paint with other artists in the area.
The first year (2008), I made this painting of a church on Haddon Avenue. Last year, the chosen building was the Collingswood PATCO station. My pencil rendering of its interior received second place.
Tickets, Please. Graphite on paper. 9″x12.”
Framed and ready to hang: $175.00
This year’s building was the Perkins Center for the Arts. I chose to work in the watercolor and ink pen style I’ve been experimenting with all summer. Yesterday, my piece won first place in the painting category.

I never do.
Below is a drawing from my sketchbook made during a Hammonton Arts Center board meeting. My skecthbook and I are still inseperable. Unfortunately, Twitpic seems to see more of its contents than this blog does.

Every week, I organize The Hammonton Art Center‘s Think Thursday event. From 5-9pm there is a kids’ craft, an artists’ activity, and live music. Everyone is welcome to stop in, and now that you know about it I hope to see you there.
Each week I give the musicians portraits I draw of them as they play. Part of me wishes I archived these drawings. The rest of me is very happy that I exchange an evening of my art for an evening of theirs. It is a dream come true to be able to provide a place where the visual and performing arts come together.
Last night, The Hammonton Art Center was lucky enough to have the thought provoking Kimberly Townsend perform. She agreed to allow the whole Figure Drawing club set up easels and draw her as she played. As it was a night dedicated to life drawing, I was able to keep a few of the sketches. Most of my better drawings went to her. Below are the drawings that did not.
As always, click on images to enlarge them.

I spent the past few days in the beautiful mountains of North Carolina. During my stay, I went to visit the Western North Carolina Nature Center. Along the outer edges of the map provided I drew all the animals I saw (except the bobcat, which is odd as I love felines). Below is their map and my sketches.

Should this piece sell, I will donate $100.00 to the Western North Carolina Nature Center. They are currently working to build a new veterinary clinic.
