Every summer, every Wednesday night, the Ocean City Fine Arts League has a plein air event. Every week they give out cash prizes to artists. Artists from all over New Jersey create gorgeous paintings of the small businesses on Asbury Avenue, Ocean City’s downtown shopping district. Judging is at 8 pm. I painted this watercolor of the beautiful and blue Butterfly Boutique on this past Wednesday. It won second place.

This morning I painted on the New Jersey boardwalk. Painting amusement park rides was a lot of fun.
On a fantastic note, I got married on Sunday. I’m in the middle of changing my name legally. This is the first piece I’ve created as Jennifer Tracy.

This watercolor painting of a Jersey shore store front won first place in the July 6th Ocean City Paint Out. Shop windows in vacation towns are always eye catching. Something about that orange dress demanded to be painted.

Asbury Avenue in Ocean City NJ has an out door painting competition every Wednesday of the summer. This past Wednesday I won second place with this painting. The painting was a particular challenge as I chose to sit across the street from the buildings I painted. Large vehicles kept parking in front of my subject matter. I learned a valuable lesson about vantage point.

This is the fifth and final post about my fantastic trip to Hawaii.
Hanauma Bay Park is perhaps the most beautiful place I’ve ever been.
The day spent there was full of snorkeling, site seeing, swimming, and sun bathing. My drawings were quick as I was torn between enjoying the sunny activities and capturing the beauty with my pen.

It is hard to describe a trip to Waikiki without mentioning the shopping district. From ABC‘s to shopping malls, downtown Honolulu is covered in stores. Below is a painting of a shave ice stand tucked away in an alley by the beach.
The International Market is a bustling collection of cart vendors, street performers, and outdoor shops. Tropical plants combined with the perpetually perfect Hawaiian weather make the whole set up beautiful. Please click to enlarge the following image as I don’t think the thumbnail does it justice.
Women’s fashion on the island can be summed by sun dresses and swim suits.
Where there is retail there are food courts. This Tiki Burger hut was charming.
This cat resides at my favorite restaurant on Oahu, Ramen Nakamura.

From Saint Paul International Airport in Minnesota we got on a plane and landed in Oahu, Hawaii.
Much like my last vacation, I carried a sketchbook everywhere I went. The above painting is of Diamond Head from a beach in Waikiki. Over the next few blog entries, I’ll share with you little snippets of my Hawaiian trip.
The hibiscus is Hawaii’s state flower. They are everywhere on the islands! If you put a flower behind your right ear in your hair, it means you are available. If the flower is placed on the left side, it means you are taken.
In the following drawing I’ve illustrated how Kevin and I drank coffee as a toddler in half a spider-man suit repeatably walked up to the stage and stole a show with his own version of the hula dance.

I spent the past few days in the beautiful mountains of North Carolina. During my stay, I went to visit the Western North Carolina Nature Center. Along the outer edges of the map provided I drew all the animals I saw (except the bobcat, which is odd as I love felines). Below is their map and my sketches.
